Crawfordsburn Country Park Trail Race

Paul Pollock came out an easy winner in the Crawfordsburn 5k trail race which includes several steep climbs and flat fast sections over scenic forest paths, grass and road. In the leading group from the off Paul had a commanding lead by half distance as they entered the flat shore path section increasing his lead into a strong head wind and rain. Easing down towards the finish he crossed the line in 16.32. Simon Murray returned to racing with a credible 21st placing in 18.39 with Eddie Bell 27th (18.56), Andrew McMurray 33rd(19.22) and Greg McClure 37th (19.47). The girls were lead home by Hannah Kelly in 90th(23.44) followed by Helen Richardson 95th(24.44), Eilis Renich 98th(25.16) and Claire McCorry 100th(26.02). There was a good turnout with 121 finishers in an enjoyable event even with the change in weather during the event.

Abbey Athletic Club was formed at the start of the new millennium by a group of relatively young athletes.
