Abbey at Antrim International XC

Abbey athletes lined up against some of the best runners from Ireland, the UK and beyond at the Antrim International XC on Saturday 23 January 2010. Andrew Agnew and Gladys Ganiel O'Neill both finished 30th in the senior races, with Andrew fourth and Gladys second home among Northern Irish competitors.

Andrew timed 31.55 over 9k in a race won by Kenyan Mike Kiegen in 27.49. Gladys clocked 21.50 on the women's 5.6k circuit, while Abbey clubmate Gemma Turley produced  a solid run for 47th (24.29).

Sligo's Mary Cullen stormed to victory in the women's race, beating back one of the best fields that the race has attracted in years. She clocked 18.45 to finish 31 second ahead of Hungarian Aniko Klavovics. They were followed in by England's Jess Sparke, Ireland's Fionnuala Britton and England's Hayley Yelling, the reigning European XC champion. 

The top Northern Ireland runners were North Belfast's Stephen Scullion who impressed with his 7th place performance, and Newcastle's Kerry Harty, who was 20th.
