Wallace Park Relays

It was rather an overcast and chilly start to the day but the temperature increased as the day progressed and the racing commenced. Ben McCullough was first off and although still only 10years old, had a fine run in the under 14boys race covering the 1400m in a time of 5.51
Ellen Wallace had possibly her best run to date with a excellent run in the U14 girls 1400m. She took the early stages steady before lifting the pace towards the finish to record 4.56 in 7th place. Faye McCune had already played hockey prior to the race but still ran well to record 5.28 for 22nd place.
Jennifer McBrien took the final stage in the U16 girls 3x1100m relay to anchor Ballyclare High School home in third place. Her time of 3.27, was the 4th fastest.
In the senior ladies 3x2200m relay Mary Dallat lead off for Abbey ‘A’ squad handing over 9th place in 7.57 to Judi Graham. Hannah Kelly(C)came home 15th in 8.46 with Elaine McCaffrey just behind in 16th (8.55). Judi gained a place for the ‘A’squad running 7.53 on the second leg with Laura McCann(B) holding 15th in 8.53. Amy Cooke came straight from a swimming gala in Lisburn to cover the second leg for the C squad recording 9.56. Nicola McCaughey achored our ‘A’ squad home 6th in 8.19; Kirstie Bell the ‘B’squad in 14th(8.51) and Judi(running twice to finish C team) 8.46 in 16th. Mary Dallat who also ran twice anchored the QUB ‘A’team home in 10th place in 8.18.
Paul Pollock got our senior men’s 3x3300m relay ‘A’ team off to a excellent start crossing the line first in 9.35. Turlough Donnelly who had a heavy cold earlier in the week took the first leg for the B squad recording 10.55 in 13th. Paul McMullan, normally associated with 400/400hurdles, brought the C squad home 17th in 11.37. Simon Taylor(A) recorded the same time as last year 9.49, to hand over in third place with Simon Murray (B) 11th in 10.57 and Andrew Mahaffey(C) 19th in 12.42. Damien who can always be relied on in pressure situations, held 3rd slot for the A team (9.59). Andrew McMurray handed over in 12th with a time of 11.18 while Bobby ran the ‘C’sqaud out in 20th(12.39). With Turlough being doubtfull due to illnessAndrew Agnew was drafted onto the first team. Despite the pressure he ran a very controlled race (10.31)to warrent his selection and anchor the ‘A’ team home third ahead of North, Striders, Sparta and Ballymena&Antrim. Shaun Chamberlain pulled the B squad up into 9th recording 10.51.
